New College of the Humanities (London) wishes to appoint a Visiting Lecturer/s and Course Leader/s in The Art of the Byzantine World and The Art of the Islamic World. These two 30-credit courses form part of the first year of the BA (Hons) in Art History.

The successful candidate will have expertise/competence in the architecture and material culture of the core regions of the Islamic world and the art of the Byzantine Empire. We would also consider applications from candidates who may only be in a position to teach one of the courses.

Teaching the courses over two-terms, you will be required to deliver weekly lectures of 1.5 hours each (24 hours per course), group seminars (4 hours per course), as well as hourly tutorials with individual students (4 hours per course per student – circa 60 hours across the two courses), plus a small number of hours for workshops and revision sessions. The abilities to teach in an engaging manner and to demonstrate scholarly rigour are key.

As Course Leader, you will be responsible for the full delivery and management of these two first year courses. Your duties will include setting both formative and summative assessments, including marking and moderation. Summative assessments take place during the third-term. Your further responsibilities will include preparation of course guides, reading lists and VLE content, as well as monitoring student progress, achievements and attendance.
