The Center for the Study of Early Christianity and Department of Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures (School of Arts and Sciences) announce the search for a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach courses in early Christianity and Syriac language and literature, primarily at the graduate level, beginning in Fall 2023. This is a one-year leave replacement, renewable for up to one additional year.
The position is shared between the interdisciplinary doctoral program in Early Christian Studies and the Christian Near East division of the Department of Semitics. Candidates should possess a strong commitment to scholarly research, teaching, and engaging with graduate students in research. The teaching load is six courses per year divided between the two units. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in Syriac and at least one other Christian Near Eastern language, especially Ethiopic. For courses offered in the Program in Early Christian Studies, a good knowledge of Patristic Greek is also required.
