Kalamazoo College invites applications for a one-year full-time non-tenure-track position in Art History beginning in September 2022. The person in this position will teach two courses for each of the ten-week trimesters, six total for the year, as well as participate as a full department member in a joint studio/art history department. Expertise in modern and contemporary art is particularly encouraged but not required. Applicants will also have the opportunity to develop and offer courses in their area of expertise. The majority of art history courses offered at Kalamazoo College are cross-listed and interdisciplinary in scope. Teaching in the College’s interdisciplinary seminar program is also possible. A Ph.D. in Art History, Visual Studies, or related, including relevant coursework and research, is required (advanced PhD candidates with a defense date scheduled for Spring 2022 will be considered).
Candidates are expected to have high aptitude and interest in undergraduate teaching and a commitment to the liberal arts. Kalamazoo College has made a commitment to inclusive excellence. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose intellectual and pedagogical approaches to the discipline will be effective in attracting and retaining historically underrepresented students. Successful applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to working with students, faculty and staff from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. The department seeks to mentor the holder of this position to prepare them for a future tenure track position at a liberal arts college.
