The Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna invites applications for University Professor of Cultural Heritage. The professorship covers the transdisciplinary field of Cultural Heritage in its entirety, including the framing social, political, economic and cultural discourses and associated processes of social negotiation. Candidates from all historical disciplines are invited to apply. We particularly welcome candidates with a special focus on artefacts and evidence of non-written, material traditions, and on theoretical reflection of central concepts of memory and oblivion.
The professorship is one of three newly established, transdisciplinary professorships at the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. The aim is to strengthen the common theoretical and methodological foundations of historical and cultural studies in both research and teaching. We expect the candidate to be prepared to conduct courses at the BA, MA and PhD levels; these include, in particular, involvement in the new introductory lecture course “Foundations of Historical-Cultural Thinking” and in interdisciplinary doctoral seminars. Successful candidates will demonstrate relevant teaching experience and research projects in the field. Participation in the existing key research areas of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies is desired, notably “Digital Humanities and Digital Heritage”, “Material Culture”, “Cultures of European-Mediterranean region and antiquity studies” and “History of Visual Culture and Cultures and Media of the Visual”.
