Digital Humanities is a newly-established professorship within the Department of History at the University of Vienna, with strong links to the ongoing activities of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH) based at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The Digital Humanities research programme on the ways in which digital tools and methods can be used to support and advance a better understanding of history. Our current focus is on the "interconnected 11th century": engaging with and modeling all forms of source material, from historical narratives to material artifacts to literature to graphic art, to achieve a deeper understanding of the personal and cultural networks that gave rise to the Crusading era. As a post-doctoral scientific collaborator you will have the chance to work in a cutting-edge and dynamic environment, helping to set the agenda for Digital Humanities in Austria.

Job Description
Preparation of a Habilitationsschrift or other significant post-doctoral publication; independent teaching of Digital Humanities courses in accordance with the pertinent stipulations of the wage agreement; support of students and conduct of examinations; participation in the research, teaching and administration of Digital Humanities in Vienna; contribution to (international) publications / scientific articles; (contribution to) organisation of conferences, meetings, symposiums, project application and (external) fundraising.

Candidate Profile

• Outstanding PhD in a field relating to medieval Western or Near Eastern historical studies.
• Good knowledge of at least ONE of medieval Latin, Slavonic, Armenian, Syriac, Arabic, Hebrew, or Georgian; facility with computer technologies, including prior programming experience; excellent spoken and written English and/or German; ability to work well within a research group. Prior teaching experience not required, but advantageous.
