The Department of History at College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment to begin in August 2023 in Early Modern History of Science, Medicine and/or Environment (no later than 1800) with a focus on transregional exchange and interactions. Applicants may have a focus in any geographic region, but we particularly welcome specializations in the trans-Mediterranean, trans-Asian, or Indian Ocean Worlds.
In this inaugural position, we are seeking a candidate whose work and teaching bring together important connections across the humanities and the sciences and complements the interdisciplinary outlook of the history faculty. The successful candidate should be willing and able to offer historical surveys in the histories of science, medicine, and/or environment, participate in teaching our historical methods curriculum, and potentially contribute courses of regional/topical specialization. Our expectations would be that these classes would add to various of our department’s global themes, including Knowledge and Belief. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in relevant interdisciplinary programs offered by our Center for Interdisciplinary Studies as well as Environmental Studies and Health Studies.
