The Archaeology Subject Area, University of Edinburgh, seeks to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow in Byzantine Archaeology (0.9 FTE) from 1 September 2016, for a period of 10 months. Applications are invited from scholars with research interests and teaching experience in Late Antique and Byzantine Archaeology.

This Fellowship is designed to replace the teaching of Prof. Jim Crow who holds a grant from the Leverhulme Research Trust. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, especially the MSc programmes in Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies (LAIBS), Mediterranean Archaeology and Classical Art and Archaeology.

In terms of teaching the post-holder will be expected to contribute to general Archaeology first- and second-year sub-honours modules (e.g. Archaeology 1 & Archaeology 2); to teach courses on Byzantine Archaeology (ARCA10055) and A Topic in Classical Archaeology (CACA10032) at honours level and co-teach, with Prof. Niels Gaul, the new School-wide course on Constantinople: The History of a Medieval Megalopolis from Constantine the Great to Süleyman the Magnificent (CHCA10005); to offer a course on Byzantine Archaeology (PGHC11260, for the better part combined with ARCA10055) at MSc level, and to contribute actively to the LAIBS core course, Approaches to the Long Late Antiquity.
