The Classics Subject Area, University of Edinburgh, seeks to appoint a fixed-term Teaching Fellow in Late Roman History from 1 September 2016, for a period of 12 months. Applications are invited from scholars with research interests and teaching experience in later Roman and late antique history.

This Fellowship is designed to replace the teaching of Dr Lucy Grig while she holds a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, especially the MSc programme in Late Antique, Islamic and Byzantine Studies (LAIBS) as well as the new MSc programme in Ancient History.

In terms of teaching the post-holder will be expected to contribute to first- and second-year sub-honours modules (e.g. The Roman World 1B, Ancient History 2B: Themes and Theories in Ancient History); to teach one of the following popular options at honours level – The City of Rome, The Emperor in the Late Roman World, or The World of St Augustine – and one honours course related to their own research; to offer A Topic in Late Antique and Byzantine History 1 at MSc level, and to contribute actively to the LAIBS core course, Approaches to the Long Late Antiquity.
