The Department of History are seeking fixed-term cover to provide teaching for Undergraduate and MA courses on Late Antique History. The successful candidate will be required to teach the Level Two Option Module ‘The Family in Late Antiquity’ and the MA Option ‘Writing Late Antique Lives’. You will also deliver some lectures on the Level 1 module, ‘Empire: From the Ancient World to the Middle Ages’.
You will join a dynamic core team of ancient and medieval historians that includes Dr Casey Strine (ancient Near Eastern history and migration), Prof. Julia Hillner (law and society in late antiquity), Dr Charles West (Europe between the 7th and 12th centuries), Dr Danica Summerlin (law, politics and the church in the central middle ages), and Prof. Martial Staub (citizenship and migration in the late middle ages). There are also numerous thematic clusters and centres in the Department and across the University in which to participate, including the Department’s five thematic research hubs (Body and Mind, Migration and Identity, Transmission of Ideas, Slavery, and Political Engagement), the Medieval and Ancient Research Centre (MARCUS), and Medical Humanities Sheffield.
With a PhD (or equivalent experience) in in Ancient or Medieval History or a related subject area, you will have teaching and research strengths within your field and be expected to contribute to the Department’s presence within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the wider University and, through outreach and knowledge exchange, in Sheffield and beyond.
