The Syrian Studies Association Bulletin invites feature, news, and research article proposals for its forthcoming Fall 2017 issue, covering issues of contemporary or historic interest in Bilad al-Sham and modern Syria.
We seek short abstracts (50-200 words) from scholars and practitioners who work in or on Syria and related issues, including human rights, journalism, military studies, international relations, archeology, media studies, trauma and conflict, environmental studies, music / art studies, etc. The deadline for final article submissions will be November 15, 2017; the bulletin will be published in late November 2017. (Word counts are flexible but generally range from 500-1500 for research notes, 1000-3000 for features, and 500-1500 for news or other pieces.). Please send abstracts by November 1.
The SSA is an international association organized to encourage and promote research and scholarly understanding of Syria in all periods and in all academic disciplines. The SSA is a non-profit, non-political association affiliated with MESA (the Middle East Studies Association of North America). The SSA defines its area of interest as the lands included in historical Bilad al-Sham until the end of the First World War and Syria after 1919. Professional and amateur scholars in all fields, from art history to anthropology to hydrology, are welcome.
