The Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) advances public education on the Levant, promoting and disseminating research in the humanities, social sciences and related subjects. We are a British International Research Institute (BIRI) affiliated with the British Academy, working on and in Jordan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus. Our mission is to advance knowledge and understanding of the peoples and cultures of the Levant. We have two institutes in the Levant: the British Institute in Amman and the Kenyon Institute in East Jerusalem, where our libraries are located.
Following a recent review, CBRL has developed a number of key strategic initiatives to increase its reach and impact. We are now seeking to appoint a Strategic Projects Director who will lead on these exciting initiatives, providing an opportunity to help shape the future of our historic organisation. Through the development of partnerships with HEIs and others, and the enhancement of our libraries and archives, the post holder will help CBRL increase opportunities for scholars and develop greater awareness and understanding of the Levant's rich heritage and global importance.
Reporting to the CBRL Director, the successful candidate will have an advanced degree or equivalent competence in the humanities, social sciences and related subjects, together with significant experience in project management and familiarity with the UK research and funding environment. In particular, candidates should have demonstrable experience with digital humanities tools and methods, including knowledge of archival / library science and research data management best practices. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK. Although not essential, working knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
