The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Stockholm University invites applications for a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Archaeology.

The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies is the largest archaeological environment in Sweden, and appointed as one of the leading research departments at the university. The department consists of six sections: Archaeology, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Stockholm Numismatic Institute, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and Centre for the Study of Cultural Evolution. Archaeology is a theoretical as well as practical subject, which focuses on studies of both prehistoric and historic periods. The specific profile of the subject is an archaeology based on current research traditions in the wider humanities.

Main responsibilities
The main tasks comprise all forms of theoretical and practical teaching within archaeology at undergraduate and graduate levels. These duties may include responsibility for and development of different forms of field courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.The holder is also expected to contribute to teaching and supervision at postgraduate level, to participate in the department's administration and to develop its external contacts. In addition, the candidate is expected to actively seek external funding.

Qualification requirements
Specific qualifications required to be considered as a candidate for employment as a Senior Lecturer include a PhD in archaeology or a corresponding level of academic competence. The applicant must have documented teaching proficiency in archaeology. The applicant must have good cooperative skills and the general ability and suitability otherwise required for the position.

The academic skills must be demonstrated by profound knowledge, acquired through your own research.Teaching skills must be demonstrated by teaching at both undergraduate and advanced level.Your skills must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of both the educational and scholarly activities.

A general assessment criterion is the ability to work with other people, as well as other general abilities required to perform one’s duties.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
