Sacred and Profane: Byzantine and Ottoman Music Traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean, workshop with Kyriakos Kalaitzidis, Rev. Fr. Romanos Karanos, and Pharos Ensemble, Harvard University, November 15, 2019, 2:00–3:30 pm

A journey through the world of Byzantine and Ottoman sacred and secular music and their legacy in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. This highly interactive workshop examines the sacralization of the profane and the profanation of the sacred in music theory and practice of the Orthodox Christian and Islamic East.

The workshop is free and open to the public.

A collaboration with Harvard University's Department of History of Art + Architecture and Center for the Study of World Religions and the Boston Byzantine Music Festival, a program of the Mary Jaharis Center for Byzantine Art and Culture at Hellenic College Holy Cross.
