The Reviews Editor of Art History, the Journal of the Association of Art Historians, completes his term of office at the end of June 2016. Applications are therefore now sought for this position.
Art History is an international forum for peer-reviewed scholarship and innovative research. Founded in 1978, the journal publishes essays, critical reviews, and special issues that engage with path-breaking new developments and critical debate in current art-historical practice. Art History covers all kinds of art and visual culture across all time periods and geographical areas. The journal welcomes contributions from the full spectrum of methodological perspectives, and is a forum for a wide range of historical, critical, historiographical and theoretical forms of writing. By means of this expanded definition, Art History works to transform and to extend the modes of enquiry that shape the discipline.
The role comprises the following responsibilities:
- commissioning review articles and single book reviews;
- ensuring that Art History continues to include book reviews covering as wide a range of areas as possible;
- ensuring that the standard of reviews continues to be high through careful choice of reviewers, and high editing standards;
- ensuring that reviews are provided in a timely fashion.
The position is supported by the journal’s editorial office and applicants are expected to combine it with their regular employment. The successful candidate shall receive an honorarium of £5,000 per annum, and occupy the post for a period of five years.
