The Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Antichità at the Università di Roma La Sapienza seeks a researcher to join the EByRome (Epigraphy of Byzantine Rome: medieval Greek inscriptions from/in Rome and Latium) project.
The project proposes two objectives: 1) checklist of the Greek medieval inscriptions of Rome and Latium (6th-15th centuries); 2) Byzantine epigraphy of Rome and Latium: case studies (study of groups of inscriptions of greater interest). To date, more than two hundred extant medieval Greek inscriptions have been identified in the city of Rome, and a lesser number of Byzantine inscriptions are preserved in various places in Latium. However, thanks to the work this project will entail, it is possible to expect that there will be a noteworthy increase in the dossier. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with the research team by giving her/his active contribution to both field research and dissemination of results, by: 1) helping in the setting up of the online database (EByRome); 2) publishing articles on case studies; 3) giving seminars and lectures; 4) co-organizing the final round-table; 5) taking part in popularization activities.
