The Dipartimento di Storia Culture Civiltà, Università di Bologna, invites applications for a researcher on Progetto Byzart - Byzantine Art and Archeology Thematic Channel (Cataloging and metadata related to Christian religious architecture and archeology of the the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods).

The BYZART - Byzantine Art and Archeology Thematic Channel project is part of the general objectives of the Europeana program, making a significant amount of cultural and artistic multimedia content on the Europeana platform available in digital format and accessible online to the general public. BYZART aims to create a new thematic channel for the Europeana website. Dedicated to Byzantine and post-Byzantine art and archeology, it will be based on the collection and indexing of collections of archival material (photos, audio, video, 3D reconstructions).

The BYZART project consortium brings together seven institutes from four European countries (University of Bologna, Open University of Cyprus, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ionian University of Corfu, National Hellenic Research Foundation-Institute of Historical Research; Bulgarian Academy of Sciences-Institute of Art Studies; and Art Museum of the city of Ravenna, with the International Center of Mosaic Documentation. These institutions hold
important archives with images, drawings, graphics, sketches, videos and archaeological artefacts related to manuscripts, icons, public monuments, ecclesiastical architecture, archaeological finds and various other kinds of artifacts attributable to Byzantine and post-Byzantine civilization. The Consortium bodies will work to digitize these collections, so as to provide, at the end of the project, 75,000 new digital objects available on the Europeana platform through the BYZART channel.

The position is a 12-month position with the possibility of renewal. Candidates should hold a Master's degree in Archaeology. Additional qualifications include excellent knowledge of English, knowledge of Byzantine architecture and art, experience organizing cultural events, and knowledge of analogical and digital photographic techniques.
