The Department of Christian History, Art and Archaeology of the Protestant Theological Faculty, University of Vienna, seeks to fill the position University Project Assistant (prae doc) beginning 1 January 2019 (maximum 4 years).
The areas of responsibility include contribution to the research project "The Apocryphal Sunday in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages" (FWF Austrian Science Fund Project P 31428-G32), with a focus on the Greek literature of Late Antiquity. In order to be able to understand the emergence of a "Sunday culture" in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages, it is necessary to collate relevant texts (using data base research, biblical reference research and manuscript network analysis), to integrate them into a database (COLADay—Calendar Online of Late Antique Weekday Dated Events) and to analyze materials using historic-critical methods, expanded to include strategies from intersectionality research. Collaboration on a critical edition of the Greek Didaskalia Jesu Christi accompanies the project.
A willingness to organize the smaller and larger workshops accompanying the project as well as to represent the project with presentations at international conferences, such as the International Conference on Patristic Studies in Oxford and the IMC in Leeds, is expected.
An accompanying dissertation project is possible and can be supervised (Dr. theol. or PhD).
A university degree (MA or Diploma) is mandatory, preferable in Theology or a pedagogical degree in Religion or in adjacent subjects, such as History or Ancient Philology.
Excellent knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin are a must.
