The Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Vienna invites applications for the position of a University Professor of Eastern Christian Studies.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and direct research in the theology and history of the Eastern-Christian churches and in patrology. Furthermore, a close collaboration with the MA program “Religious Pedagogy with a specialization in Orthodox theology”, is necessary. The Faculty is looking for a candidate who is keen to contribute to its key research areas and to foster collaboration with related departments and faculties. Given the Viennese tradition of interaction with the Eastern churches, the faculty expects a special commitment on the part of the candidate to local and international ecumenical dialogue.
Qualifications
- An MA (or an equivalent qualification) in Catholic Theology, a doctoral degree in Catholic Theology or a PhD in a related subject, as well as post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution
- The Habilitation (venia docendi) in a subject field relevant to this position or an internationally accepted equivalent qualification is desirable
- Outstanding achievements in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
- Experience in designing, procuring and managing large research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups
- Enthusiasm for excellent teaching, teaching experience at universities as well as the ability and willingness to teach students in all phases of their studies (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral level) in German and English, to supervise academic theses and to promoting young academic colleagues
The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching and for participation in university committees. In addition, the University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to be prepared to take over responsibility on the organisational level of the Faculty of Catholic Theology and the University, if necessary.
