The University of Vienna seeks to fill the position of a University Assistant (prae doc) at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies.

A pre-doctoral position in affiliation with Professor Dr. Claudia Rapp is to be filled at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, with the earliest starting date of 1. September 2019. The position is limited to four years, with a weekly work load of 30 hours.

The successful applicant will contribute to the areas research, instruction and administration; support the organization of conferences and other academic gatherings; have the opportunity to enter the doctoral program and write a dissertation in Byzantine studies (we expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 to 18 months); have the opportunity to gain teaching experience, within the parameters set by Austrian labor laws.

Qualifications

• Master in a relevant academic field (Classics, Byzantine Studies, Late Antique Studies).
• Strong ability to work as part of a team; high competence in written and oral communication; excellent command of English; ability to communicate in German.
