The Chair of Environmental Humanities is looking for two postdoctoral researchers to join the team. The positions will start on 1 October 2023 and will run for an initial period of three years with a possible extension of a further three years.

The newly created chair is part of the renowned Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC), an international center dedicated to the study of environment and society at at LMU Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München). Faculty at the RCC lead and offer courses in the newly created Environment and Society Master of Arts program. The working language is English.

In addition to teaching two to three courses (5–7 hrs/week) per semester in the Environment and Society Master of Arts program, the candidates will contribute to shaping the academic events and activities at the Chair of Environmental Humanities and the RCC.

Candidates for this position are required to have a doctorate in a field related to the environmental humanities such as environmental history, landscape history, architectural history, art history (with a focus on environment or space), urbanism, the history of science, science and technology studies (STS), human geography, environmental studies, environmental anthropology, literary studies (with a focus on environment or space) or a similar field.

The positions are full-time (40.1 hours a week) and begin on 1 October 2023. Depending on the candidates’ previous contracts with German universities, the successful candidates will be hired for an initial period of three years with a possible extension of a further three years depending on the German Act of Fixed-Term Employment. The positions suit candidates who would like to gain experience working in the academic context and who are working on their first and/or second book projects.
