Postdoctoral Researcher - GRAPH-EAST, University of Poitiers (CESCM – UMR 7302)
The postdoctoral researcher, based at CESCM (Centre d’études supérieures de civilisation médiévale), a Joint Research Unit of the University of Poitiers and the CNRS, will take part in the European Research Council-funded project GRAPH-EAST (n°948390). This project focuses on inscriptions and graffiti of the Eastern Mediterranean from the 7th to the 16th centuries. It has four objectives: exploring the “cycle” of the epigraphic object (the medieval production and the history of reception/transmission), providing a connected history of epigraphy using other alphabets, understanding the representation and practice of the Latin writing system in the East, analysing migrant writing through the prism of cultural transfers between West and East. The post-doc will be in charge of the inscriptions in Greece, islands, Turkey and Crimea.
The candidate will participate in an ambitious project, requiring flexibility and creativity, while offering the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to renew the understanding of the graphic landscape in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Middle Ages.
The contract has a duration of 12 months with the possibility of extension. The contract may begin earlier than 1 July 2021.
Regular field missions in the Eastern Mediterranean are to be planned.
