Yale University invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Humanities, to begin in July 1, 2022. Candidates in Literary Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Theory, or any other humanities discipline are welcome to apply. The Postdoctoral Associate will be affiliated with the interdisciplinary Program in the Humanities and will participate fully in the program’s intellectual life. They will teach three courses over the year.

One course each semester will be in the Directed Studies program, an integrated set of courses in western literature, philosophy, and historical & political thought. Instructors teaching in Directed Studies take turns giving the weekly lecture (one per semester) to the entire program, and, in addition to the weekly faculty team meetings, they lead discussion in their own smaller group of fifteen students twice each week, and offer meaningful feedback on student writing.

In addition to the two courses in Directed Studies, the Postdoctoral Associate is responsible for conducting one additional course in the Humanities Program, on a topic of their interest chosen in consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Chair. They are free to devote the rest of their time to individual research, with ample opportunity to present work-in-progress to faculty in the Humanities Program and elsewhere on campus.
