The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University invites scholars to submit applications for a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in the area of Byzantine studies. The call for applications is open to scholars in the Humanities or Social Sciences who have received their PhD within the last five years. The fellowship extends for 12 months, from approximately September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020. The successful candidate will reside in the greater Boston area and will conduct research toward an important publication in the field of Byzantine studies.
The fellowship recipient should have a PhD in hand awarded within the last five years in any field of Byzantine studies and have an active research agenda situating Byzantium within the broader contexts of Mediterranean and world history. Projects at the intersection of Byzantine and Ottoman studies with a focus on the history and culture of the Byzantine world after 1204 are particularly welcome. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Professors Dimiter Angelov and Cemal Kafadar at the History Department and the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
