The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Stockholm University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History.
The Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies, which is the largest archaeological environment in Sweden, consists of six sections: Archaeology, Archaeological Research Laboratory, Stockholm Numismatic Institute, Osteoarchaeological Research Laboratory, Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, and Centre for the Study of Cultural Evolution. At the department, research and teaching are carried out in a wide range of fields.
Research in Classical Archaeology and Ancient History covers Greek and Roman cultures in the Mediterranean area from the Stone Age to c. AD 600. Ongoing research at the department includes ancient religion, Greek and Roman art and archaeology, Aegean prehistory and Classical reception studies with a special focus on such topics as gender roles, ethnicity and identities in Antiquity.
The position involves independent research and research in colloboration with other researchers at the department. Other responsiblities involve active participation in the research seminars at the department and teaching up to 30 % or other departmental duties (max 30 %).
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree in Classical Archaeology and/or Ancient History or an equivalent degree from another country.
Proficiency in the Swedish language is not required at the time of appointment. However, the applicant must be willing to learn Swedish within the first year of the employment. The applicant is expected to possess good English language skills.
The position involves part-time, 50 % employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2019-01-01 or as per agreement.
