The Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow in Ancient History.

The appointment will begin on 01 July 2018. The post is initially funded for 12 months, with a possibility of renewal after successful review.

While primarily designed as a research post, in order to support career development, the position also includes some teaching duties (one 12-week course within the first academic year).

Candidates working in any field of Ancient History are encouraged to apply. The Department of Historical Studies has four permanent faculty members in Classics. While the primary appointment of the postdoc will be in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga, there will also be a relationship with the Graduate Department of Classics on the University’s St George Campus, which provides an academic hub for all Classicists at the University of Toronto.

Applicants must have successfully defended their doctoral theses by the commencement of the post. Under exceptional circumstances, candidates who defended their doctoral theses prior to 2014 may be considered. Applicants cannot hold a tenure-track or continuing faculty position at a college or university. Applicants may be citizens of any country, and graduates from any university. Successful international applicants must meet all Canadian immigration requirements.
