The Institute for Medieval Research (IMAFO) (Division of Byzantine Research) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a postdoc position (part-time, 35 per week) for a duration of 12 months, starting October 01st, 2023 or later.

The post holder will

• research and prepare of publications on literary and gender history, using approaches of social history
• participate in the Work Group "Social and Religious History" (Group Leader: Prof. Dr. Claudia Rapp)
• actively contribute to the cholarly activities of the Institute, especially the Division of Byzantine Research 

The successful applicant will have 

• a completed doctorate in Byzantine Studies, Ancient Studies or Classical Philologyompleted doctorate in Byzantine Studies, Ancient Studies or Classical Philology
• experience of working in an academic environment
• excellent mastery of Byzantine Greek
• excellent mastery of English; knowledge of at least one modern scholarly language; willingness to learn German
