The Stavors Niarchos Foundation Center for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies (GABAM) at Koç University is launching a new research project, focusing on the City Walls of Istanbul. The aim of the project is to create and elaborate documentation of the Walls, integrating accurate recording and fieldwork, with the latest research their architecture, archaeology, history, and art.
GABAM will appoint a post-doctoral fellow, who will be part of the research team and will be fully employed on the Walls project. The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in Byzantine studies; his/her subject being related to history of art, architecture, and history. Candidates with a research record in military studies, especially if involved with the defense systems of Constantinople, may be given priority. As the project involves the use of digital humanities, candidates with experience in the field are encouraged to apply.
