The Humanities Center at the University of Pittsburgh seek applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship beginning in Fall 2023. The initial appointment is for one year, August 1, 2023 through July 30, 2024, with renewal possible. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in a humanistic discipline by August 1, 2023. We are seeking junior scholars in the humanities who are no more than five years out from their doctorate
We seek candidates who have a background in humanities research and who also have some administrative experience or potential for excelling in that capacity. In addition to engaging in their own research, the postdoctoral fellow will provide administrative support for the Center, including managing the Center’s communications, events, and event space. This includes a weekly newsletter, event publicity, social media, and website maintenance; liaising with visiting scholars and fellows of the Center, making travel arrangements, and processing honoraria; maintaining an event calendar and space reservations along with general administrative support for the Center. There are no teaching duties associated with this position. The administrative labor is expected to be equivalent to a 1/1 teaching load. The ideal candidate would have some experience in humanities programming, interdisciplinary programming, program administrative support, conference organizing, event organizing, or something similar.
The successful candidate will be a full member of the Humanities Center research community and will be expected to participate actively in Center events throughout the year. They will also be invited to present some of their research in progress in the Center’s colloquium. The theme for Center programming in 2023-2024 is Histories.
