At the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History, the departments of Prof. Dr. Tanja Michalsky and Prof. Dr. Tristan Weddigen offer several doctoral and postdoctoral positions for art historians to be filled as soon as possible. Following successful evaluation, the two-year doctoral positions can be extended to a third year, while the one-year postdoctoral positions can be extended for a second year.
Connections to the two departments’ current core subjects of research are welcome but not required: on the one hand, the history of art of Southern Italy from the Middle Ages to early modern times, cartography, and film; on the other hand, Italian conceptions of modernism and postmodernism, Italy in a global context, and materiality and mediality, from early modern times to the present.
An outstanding degree is a prerequisite; participation in the institute’s activities is expected.
