The Newberry Library is currently accepting applications for Long-Term fellowships. Long-Term Fellowships are available to postdoctoral scholars who wish to be in residence at the Newberry for periods of 4 to 9 months. Applicants for long-term opportunities must hold a PhD by the application deadline.
Long-Term Fellowships are intended to support individual scholarly research and promote serious intellectual exchange through active participation in the Newberry’s scholarly activities, including fellows’ seminars and the weekly colloquium. Awardees may combine these fellowships with sabbatical or other stipendiary support.
Fellowships
- National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships support scholarship in any field appropriate to the Newberry’s collection. Applicants must be United States citizens or foreign nationals with three continuous years’ residence.
- Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowships support scholarship in any field of study appropriate to the Newberry’s collection.
- The Monticello College Foundation Fellowship for Women is designed for a pre-tenure woman whose work gives clear promise of scholarly productivity and would benefit significantly from being in residence at the Newberry. Preference will be given to projects concerned with the study of women.
- The Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel Joint Fellowship adds an additional month of support to a Long-Term Fellowship for research at the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. The proposed project must describe the materials to be consulted at both the Newberry Library and the Herzog August Bibliothek. The recipient should plan to visit the libraries sequentially to ensure continuity of research.
