New Paphos and Western Cyprus: New Archaeological and Historical Perspectives, Pafos, October 11–15, 2017
Submissions due October 31, 2016
On the occasion of the celebration of Pafos, European Capital of Culture 2017, an international colloquium entitled: Nea Paphos and Western Cyprus, New Archaeological and Historical Perspectives, will be held in Pafos in October 2017. At the first colloquium in the series, held in Avignon in October 2012, the latest archaeological findings and the history of the city from its foundation to the Middle Ages, as well as reflections on the preservation and valorisation of the site were presented.
The main aim of this second scientific meeting, besides the presentation of new discoveries made by the archaeological missions currently working on the site, is to study the evolution of the city, as well as of that of other sites in Western Cyprus, from the Hellenistic period to Early Medieval times. The languages of the colloquium will be Greek and English.
We hereby invite interested scholars to present their new findings and thoughts on the following themes:
- The beginnings of Nea Paphos
- Nea Paphos, Arsinoe and other sites in Western Cyprus
- The urban development of Nea Paphos: New archaeological evidence
- The Necropoleis of Western Cyprus
- Art and architecture: New research
- Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages
