Mobility and Migration in Byzantium: The Perspective of Material Culture, University of Vienna, January 20–21, 2017
A workshop-style conference on the topic of “Mobility and Migration in Byzantium: the Perspective of Material Culture.”
The conference is sponsored by the Wittgenstein-Prize Project ‘Mobility, Microstructures and Personal Agency’ of the FWF (Austrian National Research Foundation). The project highlights the role of Byzantium as a global culture and analyzes the internal flexibility of Byzantine society. It aims to contribute to a re-evaluation of a society and culture that has traditionally been depicted as stiff, rigid and encumbered by its own tradition by exploring issues of mobility, microstructures and personal agency.
RSVP required.
