Overall, these two volumes present an attractive mixture of contributions that are setting the larger stage of the Byzantine world and in-depth studies of particular types of objects, sources, or other phenomena. Both volumes are richly illustrated and offer their readers a wealth of information and a learned view on the state-of-the-art of modern scholarship.
