Mellon Postdoctoral Research Scholar, Lehigh University

Mellon Postdoctoral Research Scholar, Lehigh University lead image

Lehigh University seeks applications for a three-year Mellon Postdoctoral Research Scholar to participate, beginning August 2019, in the leadership of our efforts to integrate and amplify the Humanities across all disciplines. The annual salary starts at $54,000 with full benefits.

Lehigh is a comprehensive research university with four undergraduate colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Engineering and Applied Science, and a new College of Health, focused on population health, that will admit its first students in Fall 2020--and a graduate College of Education. The expansion of professionalized degree programs has created a great need for additional study and training in the Humanities. Our goal is to immerse the study of the Humanities across the university, to build sustainable structures to maintain new pedagogical and research initiatives, and to strengthen the Humanities themselves.

The scholar will contribute to sharpening and pursuing the vision of the grant program and to the development of programming under its auspices, pursue individual scholarship, teach one undergraduate course each semester, contribute to workshops in partnership with Lehigh’s Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, and work with faculty to help reimagine courses and pedagogies to better integrate and accentuate the Humanities.

The position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. received between August 2016 and August 2019. We seek scholars from a wide range of disciplines; successful candidates will have extensive training in the Humanities or the Humanistic Social Sciences and a deep commitment to integrating the Humanities across all disciplines at the university. We have designed a specific mentoring plan for the postdoctoral scholar intended to provide support for the candidate’s research and professional development while at Lehigh, and we will customize this plan to fit the scholar’s individual needs. The scholar will benefit from working with a primary Humanities mentor and with other program leaders.
