The Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge invites applications for Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships in History. The deadline for applications is 12pm (noon) on Thursday 2 January 2020. The Faculty of History will put forward shortlisted candidates to the Isaac Newton Trust for match funding as required by the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship scheme.

The Faculty is delighted to receive applications in any area of History. To complement our current broad range of research strengths, in this coming cycle we would be particularly keen to receive applications in any of the following general areas: the medieval middle east/north Africa; the history of South America; global intellectual history; the history of sexualities; the early modern maritime world.

Potential candidates should first contact a suitable academic host from existing Faculty of History staff.

The Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship is a highly prestigious, fiercely competitive, post-doctoral award for researchers who are near the start of their career. Fellowships are tenable for three years on a full-time basis.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must not yet have held a full-time permanent academic post in a UK university or comparable UK institution, nor may Fellows hold such a post concurrently with the Early Career Fellowship.
  • Applicants must either hold a degree from a UK higher education institution at the time of taking up the Fellowship or at the time of the application deadline must hold an academic position in the UK (e.g. fixed-term lectureship, fellowship) for which the contract duration at the time of appointment was not less than 9 months.
  • Leverhulme specify that you must have submitted your PhD thesis no later than 4pm on 27 February 2020 and no earlier than 27 February 2016, unless you have had a career break.
