The Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, Birkbeck, University of London, invites applications for a fixed-term Lectureship in Medieval History and Archaeology. Scholars working on any aspect of medieval history and archaeology c. 600 – c. 1400 will be considered. Applicants ideally should have completed a PhD or equivalent qualification in History or Archaeology and possess a publication record that shows clear evidence of research excellence and outstanding potential to contribute to the Department’s commitment to research-led teaching.

Experience of lecturing and conducting seminars at both undergraduate and postgraduate level is particularly desirable. The appointee will have to show clear ability to teach the BA option module 'Building the Middle Ages' and the MA option on 'City of Rome: Ancient to Medieval.' There will also be an expectation to lead and contribute to the jointly-taught BA option module ‘From Ancient to Medieval Societies.' Experience in the supervision of postgraduate dissertation research is also desirable.

The successful applicant will take responsibility for organisation, supervision and teaching of medieval history and archaeology at undergraduate and postgraduate level; supervise postgraduate students; engage in scholarly research and publication; and participate in Departmental and School administration as required.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and fixed term for one year from 1 October 2017.
