Birkbeck’s Department of History, Classics and Archaeology invites applications for a fixed-term (12 months) Lectureship in Medieval History and Archaeology. Scholars working on any aspect of medieval history and archaeology c. 600 – c. 1400 will be considered. Applicants should ideally have completed a PhD or equivalent qualification in History or Archaeology and a publication record that shows clear evidence of research excellence and outstanding potential to contribute to the Department’s commitment to research-led teaching.
Experience of lecturing and conducting seminars at both undergraduate and postgraduate level is particularly desirable, and experience in the supervision of postgraduate dissertation research is also preferred. The appointee will have to demonstrate clear ability to contribute to the Department’s BA teaching, to lead the Group 2 module ‘Living in the Middle Ages’ and to offer specialised modules in area of expertise.
The successful applicant will take responsibility for organization, supervision and teaching of medieval history and archaeology at undergraduate and postgraduate level; supervise postgraduate students; engage in scholarly research and publication; and participate in Departmental and School administration as required.
