The Department of History at University of Sussex invites applications for a fixed-term Lecturer in Global History. The successful candidate for this fixed-term position will have a proven track record in Global History from 1500-2000. It is expected that the candidate’s expertise may rest on specific periods and/or geographical regions within that longer time frame.

A focus on the early modern period, and/or histories of the Islamic world, and/or global histories of religion, and/or histories of migration may be an advantage.

You will be able to give lectures and teach seminars, whether to students in place or learning remotely, mark different kinds of academic assessment, and perform administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will join a thriving, collegial School with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary study, and an intellectually ambitious undergraduate and postgraduate student community. Ability to teach, good communication skills, and an ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented department are essential skills for this position.
