The School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at the The University of Queensland invites applications for a Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History.

The history of the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean forms a core area of research and teaching in the Classics & Ancient History program. Staff interests are equally divided between the geographic core of Greece and Rome. The group's expertise covers a broad range of disciplines and subject areas including archaeology, art and architecture, politics and political ideology, social history, language and literature. Staff and students benefit from access to the R.D. Milns Antiquities Museum, which has significant holdings of documentary source material, including Greek and Roman coins, inscriptions and ostraka.

The appointee will be required to develop, coordinate and teach undergraduate and honours level courses in Classics and Ancient History, and supervise honours students. The appointee will be expected to undertake administrative and other activities associated with the School.

Applicants should possess a PhD in an area within the broad field of Classics and Ancient History. Applicants must be able to teach Greek at all levels, and preferably Latin. You should also possess demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and Honours level, and a preparedness to use alternative modes of teaching, such as digital technologies and flexible learning options.
