The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s History and Literature Faculties invite applications for a jointly-appointed full-time Lecturer in Ancient and Medieval Studies (AMS) with a focus on Greek language, literature, and history.

We seek an experienced educator who complements the research and teaching excellence in AMS, an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that draws students and faculty from across the core disciplines of History, Literature, Architecture, Music, and Philosophy. The ideal candidate has at least two years of teaching experience at the university level. Master’s is required; a PhD in Classics or a related field (degree in hand by June 30, 2023) is preferred. 

The primary responsibility is teaching three subjects each semester. Courses to be taught annually are The Ancient World: Greece and Greek I/II (Intro Greek). The successful candidate will complement that core with additional subjects that expand on current AMS offerings, which may include: advanced topics in History, a ten-day January term study program in Greece, topics in ancient authors and literature. The ability to teach Latin and/or the Bible (Hebrew Bible and New Testament) is desirable. We welcome scholars specializing in any field related to the pre-modern Hellenic world, including Hellenistic, Early Christian, and Byzantine Studies.

Two-year appointment guaranteed, pending successful review in the first year.
