Manchester Metropolitan University’s Department of History, Politics and Philosophy is seeking to appoint lecturer to contribute to our research, undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision in Ancient History. We welcome applications from those with specialisms in any period of the ancient world broadly defined (pre-Historic, Classical, Late Antique, Byzantine). Specific research interests in the history or archaeology of youth or childhood would be an advantage, as the post will align closely with the work of the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies (MCYS), a cross-disciplinary research centre which aims to be a centre of expertise for the use of participatory research with children and young people.

You will have a background in Ancient History/Archaeology, with particular focus on childhood or youth. You will effectively and enthusiastically prepare and deliver original teaching materials informed and led by your personal, published research, as well as your wide-ranging experience in the field. You will deliver high quality, engaging and inspiring teaching in keeping with our team’s culture; benefitting your students, supporting your colleagues, and strengthening our collective reputation. You must also be a scholar with a recognised record of achievement in research as demonstrated by publications that are REF 2021 eligible and world-class in terms of originality, significance and rigour. You will have experience in, or a clear plan for, applying for external grants and building external partnerships. As a collegial team-player you will have the ability to mentor and nurture the talents of others to the benefit of the Department and University as a whole.

Candidates must be hold a PhD or equivalent (e.g. DPhil, or EdD) in a directly relevant area. Evidence of a strong showing for REF 2021 is also required. The anticipated start date for the successful applicant is July 2018.
