Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
The Centre for Mediterranean Studies (CMS) of the Faculty of History at the Ruhr-University Bochum invites applications for the position of a Junior Professor for Materiality in Transmediterranean Contexts (temporary position, German Salary Scale W1) to start as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be expected to cover the field of materiality in transmediterranean contexts both within the CMS and the Faculty of History. He or she should help strengthen and develop existing research connections in the area of Mediterranean Studies within the faculty and to intensify cooperation between faculty institutes and research centres. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their dedication to the field of Mediterranean Studies. The teaching load will be four hours per week for the first three year period and (after positive evaluation) five hours per week for the second three year period.
A university degree in one of the fields of Archaeological Studies, History or Art History covered in the faculty is essential, as is the readiness and ability to participate in interdisciplinary research. We expect a strong commitment to academic teaching, the particular aptitude for research usually demonstrated by the quality of the PhD thesis, and the willingness and ability to attract third-party funding. Candidates should have acquired their PhD no more than 5 years ago and have completed other significant academic work as well.
