The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies, a unit in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University, invites applications for an Instructor position, in the history of Christianity, with an anticipated start date of August 2019. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on an academic year basis (Aug 16 – May 15). Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.

The successful candidate must have a broad knowledge of early Christian literature and of the Late Antique Greco-Roman world. The position will support the religious studies major and online REL major, with its concentrations in (1) Religion, Culture, and Public Life and (2) Religion, Politics, and Global Affairs. She or he must be able to teach core fundamental courses in early Christianity, including a range of courses on the New Testament, the formation of the Christian tradition, and early Christian thought, as well as broad introductory surveys of the history of Christianity. The successful candidate will be assigned to teach at least two of the required courses in the Political History and Leadership certificate program.

The candidate must have a PhD in religious studies or a related discipline by the time of the appointment.

Knowledge of koine Greek and/or other languages relevant to the study of the history of Christianity is strongly desired.
