Koç University Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies (GABAM) and the Swedish Institute in Istanbul (SRII) will grant a research fellowship in Byzantine studies with a specialization in material and visual culture.

The fellow will contribute to the digital exhibition “Nordic Tales, Byzantine Paths”, a collaboration between GABAM and the SRII which will be presented in the 24th International Congress of Byzantine Studies (Venice, August 2022). Other duties will include the preparation of a large EU project grant about artistic interconnections between the Byzantine and Nordic worlds.  

The fellowship will include the monthly stipend, insurance and free housing at the guesthouse of SRII. It will be for six months and the expected starting date is in February 2022. Depending on the pandemic conditions, the fellowship may begin online for a certain period, during which the stipend will be paid. The fellow will have access to the libraries and research facilities of both Koç University and the SRII.

The study and working language of Koç University is English. Knowledge of any Scandinavian language is an asset, along with the experience in digital humanities and exhibitions as well as team spirit.
