Christ Church, University of Oxford proposes to elect Fowler Hamilton Visiting Fellows from overseas, in the Humanities or the Social Sciences, for up to eleven months in the period September 2021 to August 2022.
The Fellowship Fund was established in the name of the late Fowler Hamilton, an American Rhodes Scholar of Christ Church. The Fellowships are intended to enable distinguished senior scholars and creative artists to pursue their own research as members of the college.
The tenure of each Fellowship is negotiable, but the following periods are suggested:
- from 1 September for 11 months
- from 1 September for 9 months
- from1 September or 1 January for 6 months
- from 1 September, 1 January or 1 April for 3 months.
A Fellow and his/her family will be provided with a 3-bedroomed furnished apartment (free of rent), situated about a mile from the college. Other benefits include use of a study in college, and free lunches and dinners. Return economy fares from the country of origin will be paid for a Fellow and his/her family. A grant towards expenses (including living expenses) may be made, depending on the particular financial circumstances of a successful candidate.
Fellows are normally expected to give a talk on their research, or in some way to present their creative work, to members of Christ Church.
