Explore the Caucasus, at the Crossroads of Empires, Tbilisi, September 11–16, 2023
The Interdisciplinary Research Center at International Black Sea University organizes the Interdisciplinary Summer School “Explore the Caucasus, at the Crossroads of Empires.” It offers a series of lectures for international and local postgraduate and doctoral programs’ students, as well as young professionals and researchers.
The school is intended for researchers interested in the cultural and political past of the Caucasus, with an emphasis on the history of Georgia and Azerbaijan. Experienced scholars and scientists from Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Europe will be delivering a series of lectures within the project. The project aims to reconstruct the political, social, and religious life of Caucasian Iberia and Lazica through field lectures and trainings, field visits of the historical sites, ancient settlements, and museums. The wrap-up sessions will be focused on the modern history and the formation of the Soviet empire.
The project intends to promote the systematic use of digital resources and will contribute to the development of the field of digital humanities. The series of lectures will be recorded and materials will be distributed among participants.
The summer school is designed for 10 participants from Georgia and abroad (master’s/doctoral students, lecturers, academic staff).
The project provides free transportation inside Georgia, school materials, meals and coffee breaks during the summer school. The cost of travel and accommodation will be covered by the participants.
