The University of Graz invites applications for up to 7 Positions for Doctoral Students for PhD projects in the fields of Theology, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Classics (Classical Philology, Ancient History and Classical Archaeology) within the framework of the International Graduate School (IGS) “Resonant Self–World Relations in Ancient and Modern Socio-Religious Practic- es” directed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Spickermann and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Irmtraud Fischer (Graz) and Prof. Dr. Jörg Rüpke and Prof. Dr. Hartmut Rosa (Erfurt).
The positions are to be filled by 1 October 2018 for a period of 24 months with the option of extension for a further 12 months pending review.
The project is a cooperation between the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt and the University of Graz, funded by the FWF and the DFG. Participants are required to spend one academic year at the cooperating university in the second year of their term.
As an International Research Training Group, the programme’s primary language is English.
Requirements
- Excellent degree in one of the above named disciplines
- Knowledge of English, German (native speaker or respective certificates), and other relevant languages (at least reading skills, candidates without knowledge of German are requested to take courses)
- Willingness to cooperate within in the interdisciplinary research environment of the University of Graz, in particular the IGS, and the Max-Weber-Kolleg
- Willingness to take part in the joint study programme and to move to the Max-Weber-Kolleg for one academic year.
