The Institute of Classical Studies (ICS) was founded in 1953 and provides research support and facilitation for the UK-wide Classics research community. It promotes research into the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and neighbouring lands, ranging from prehistory to Late Antiquity, and encompassing languages and literature, art and archaeology, history and philosophy. The Institute’s remit has always involved both national and international collaboration, and this will remain at the heart of its mission.
This is an exciting opportunity not only to provide leadership and to shape Classical Studies in the UK and beyond, but to play a fundamental role in advocating for the importance of the humanities to society at a critical moment. The new Director joins a dynamic and committed senior team of Directors at the School, implementing a new vision and strategy. Equally, there is great potential to take ICS in new directions, whilst building on its international reputation and world-class library holdings.
