Manganeios Prodromos and His 148 Poems
Elizabeth Jeffreys and Michael Jeffreys
Michael Jeffreys will begin with a list of the many different events, campaigns, geographical areas, ceremonies, genres etc. to which the poems of Manganeios Prodromos make their characteristically long-winded and vague allusions, with some examples of the light which the poet throws on them. Elizabeth Jeffreys will then become much more specific, examining MP15 (using the numbering in Marc. gr. XI.22), which discusses some details of the author’s poetic training and techniques; as with much of the corpus, only a few fragments of this poem were published carelessly in the nineteenth century.

Discussion
Moderated by Baukje van den Berg, Byzantine Poetry in the ‘Long’ Twelfth Century (1081–1204): Texts and Contexts
