The British School at Rome is a centre of interdisciplinary research excellence in the Mediterranean supporting the full range of arts, humanities and social sciences.
Applications are invited for Senior Fellowships.
The Balsdon Fellowship is open to scholars of the humanities and social sciences, working on any aspect of the social, religious, political and economic cultures of the Italian peninsula, and their wider textual, visual and material dissemination and reception from prehistory to the modern period.
The Hugh Last Fellowship is open to scholars working on classical antiquity, excluding archaeological fieldwork and work on Roman Britain.
These Fellowships, which are tenable for three months between late September 2021 and late September 2022, offer membership of a vibrant multidisciplinary research community, a varied and international events programme, accommodation in our residence, food and 24-hour access to our historic library collection.
These Fellowships are open to established scholars, normally in post in a UK university. Applicants must be British or Commonwealth citizens, or must have studied at postgraduate level in a Higher Education Institution in the UK. In addition to pursuing personal research that will contribute to one of the BSR’s current research themes, the Fellows are expected to take an interest in the work of other award-holders at the BSR, particular those in fields close to their own.
